Her 2006 number "Me & U" peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, signaling her arrival. Little has been heard from the singer since, but with a new record deal and a recent music video, Cassie may be back in the game.
Her first album,
Cassie, was produced mainly by Ryan Leslie and consisted of R&B, hip-hop and pop sounds. The album found success with the song "Me & U," which alone sold 321,000 copies in the US. Not a bad start, but for her follow-up album,
Electro Love, the singer wanted to bring more to the table. She categorized the album as "dance" and, although she had big names including Lil Wayne, Diddy and Akon featuring on several singles, the album failed to impress.
In 2009, Cassie signed a new deal with Interscope Records, and on February 9th 2012 released a promo for her first single, "King of Hearts," followed by a video for the song. Cassie isn't known for her vocals, and for this electro-dance track, they aren't needed. It's got a hypnotic rhythm and catchy bridge that make the song enjoyable. Much of what was likable about "Me & U," including the soft vocals and sexy beat, is found in this number. The difference? She's replaced the R&B-feel with the now popular electronic sound and overall, it really works.
