- Music legend Brian Eno, is Calvi's unofficial mentor and he described her during a BBC6 Music interview as, "the biggest thing since Patti Smith".
Anna Calvi grew up being exposed to many genres of music by her very talented and eclectic Italian father. After leaving school, she originally intended to study art, but instead opted for a degree in music. Calvi formed several bands including "Cheap Hotel". She then went on to meet multi-instrumentalist Mally Harpaz and drummer Daniel Maiden-Wood, who now play in her immediate band set-up. Calvi is known for her intense guitar playing and seductive live performance. Fans compare her sound and voice to female singers PJ Harvey and Siouxsie. Calvi's self titled album was released in the UK and Europe through Domino Records. Our featured track "Blackout'" was the first single of the album and was featured in Pitchfork in the U.S. The album was reportedly created in a basement and this imposed isolation made devils spring to the page, showing through song after song. The signs of rapture are clear within our featured track "Blackout" as the song turns from seductive to precarious, drawing the listener into every lyric and guitar lick For more information Anna Calvi visit: http://annacalvi.com/
