As a graphic artist and videographer, what is the overall message you wish to send with the work you produce?
When I first started doing graphic design I had a lot of religious cues in my work and good vs evil themes throughout (
example) . I think now that I've gotten that out of my system my message changes with my moods. Its all about having fun with it and letting my current thoughts & ideas take control, no agenda.
At what age did you become interested in design? What prompted this?
I started out in High School. It really started with web design, I used to design sites for bands before I knew anything about Photoshop. Then I learned design, and now I've moved more into animation. I think it's always fueled by my need to learn new things in order to make my visions come to life ya know?
Which came first for you, the graphic design or the videography?
Web Design > Graphic design > Photography > Animation > Videography
That's sort of the timeline. My ultimate goal in life is to direct my first feature film. Last summer I took 3 months off to work on a short film ( which was inspired by a conversation I had with Kesh actually). I spent a large sum of my money, wrote the script, hired a production company and I'm still working on editing and shooting scenes every few months. I'm hoping it comes out this summer.
There are some stills from the movie on my
tumblr.
Name one brand you would like to work with in the future. Why?
Supreme. Why? Cause everything they do is so simple yet it embodies the current trend in culture so well. Sort of like the Apple of street wear.
Ends/Wealth Corp. is a collective you're a part of -- tell us about it.
Ends/Wealth Corp is a group of talented artist who came together to form a lifestyle brand. Collaboration is key when being an artist and I'm blessed to have such a great team of people I can collaborate with and depend on. We do everything from short films to t-shirts to branding for other companies. Best thing about us, the company is still very young.
During the summer time what is your favorite thing to do in Chicago?
Have fun. I'm trying to make it a habit to take every Summer off now. Ever since the amazing experience I had last year. This winter I bought a Delorean so I think I'll spend my entire Summer driving that thing around town, ha!
But really besides fun, Summer in Chicago is really the only chance we get to work on projects that involve the outdoors. Its cold 9 out of 12 months so there's no excuse.
What was the last film you saw that made you go, "WOW"?
Black Swan. I'm a huge Darren Aronofsky fan so that movie was perfect for me. I love how his style has changed since 'The Wrestler' and I hope to see more work like this in the future.
